I support the following (orthogonal) organisations and ideas:
The St. Gallen Symposium is an annual conference held since 1970 at the eponymous University of St. Gallen in Switzerland. The Symposium provides an unparalleled opportunity for young people to interact directly with some of the most influential business people and opinion leaders on earth. By writing a short essay on a topic related to the Symposium's annual theme, a hundred people under thirty from myriad fields and nations are offered an all-expenses-paid invitation each year, including flights and accommodation. If you're a young person with a passion for global issues, apply!
A global issue of increasing prominence this century is climate change. A straightforward and inexpensive way to take action is to power your home or business with energy primarily from renewable sources like wind and solar. Here are lists of green energy providers by American state and Canadian province. With my renewable energy provider, Green Mountain Power, the switch to them was free, required no hardware installation, and they have so far cost me a few dollars less per month than my traditional energy provider.
I have a lot of respect for the physicians at Médecins Sans Frontières. MSF provide emergency healthcare in the most distressed regions of the world, including many active war zones. I highly recommend donations to this organisation.
